Owl’s Head Studio
Basketmaker, Printmaker,
and Art Educator

As a fifth generation Adirondacker, the mountains have proven to be a lifelong source of inspiration as well as the place which beckons me home. With my father born in Tupper Lake, and my mother from Newcomb, Long Lake is the central point of my roots. My grandfather George Shaughnessy was one of the first firetower rangers on Goodnow Mountain and my father was employed his entire career at Tahawus.

I studied Fine Arts on Long Island and completed my degree in Studio Art and Art Education at SUNY Potsdam and St. Lawrence graduating Magna cum Laude, receiving various awards from the art and education departments.

My interest in basket making stems from the packbaskets used by my grandfather and has evolved into various types of basket design. Having delved into painting, ceramics, collage and printmaking in my studies, my work often incorporates elements from each discipline with the ongoing goal of producing greater work and mastery of technique.

As an artist and art educator, I am excited by the existence and goals of the Long Lake Artisans Cooperative and look forward to its being a vital part of this great community.
